Nature Throid® and WP Thyroid® Consumer-Level Recall

On September 2, 2020, we received a consumer-level recall notice from RLC Labs® regarding all unexpired lots of Nature-Throid® and WP Thyroid®. This recall was issued because RLC Labs was notified by FDA that five lots of Nature-Throid® and one lot of WP Thyroid® were tested and found to contain less than the required 90% of the active ingredient. According to RLC Labs, the tested products contained no less than 87% of the active ingredient.

RLC Labs advises that based on these results, and as a precaution, the company decided to recall all unexpired products until further notice, while they conduct an internal investigation and re-assessment of their manufacturing processes and procedures.

The risks posed by potentially sub-potent products are that patients’ symptoms may be uncontrolled. RLC Labs advises that it believes that Nature-Throid® and WP Thyroid® are safe, and that they have not received reports of adverse reactions related to the recalled lots.

RLC Labs advises that patients should not stop taking their Nature-Throid® and WP Thyroid® medicine without first contacting their doctor for further guidance and/or a replacement prescription.

CVS Caremark Response: Because of this action, CVS Caremark Mail Service Pharmacy is contacting patients and prescribers to advise them of this recall. We are encouraging patients who are taking Nature-Throid® and WP Thyroid® to contact their prescriber.
